FAQ

1. How much does it cost?
The cost is $25 or $80 for 4 classes (please bring cash) and this includes a free tea, coffee or hot chocolate at a local café after class - a great way to talk to others currently experiencing pregnancy and create your own pre-natal support group.

2. When are the classes?
Classes are every Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm at the Owen Glen Pool AUT Millennium Centre, Antares Place, Mairangi Bay.

When you walk into the centre, continue past reception on your left, and diagonally opposite the coffee shop you will see a couple of armchairs and a coffee table. On the table will be a bright blue folder.  Please look for the blank enrolment forms and start to complete one.  Unfortunately the clocks in the Centre are not synchronised, but I will be only two minutes away, in the gym.

3. What should i bring?
Bring a bag to place your gear into as we don't leave anything in the change rooms.  A non-glass water bottle is also useful – chilled water is available at the Centre.

4. What do i wear?
Whichever togs you are comfortable in. It is very important that you wear a bra under your exercise gear – hormonal breasts do need support.  (A bikini bra doesn't count)

5. Should i eat before class?
Make sure you eat breakfast at least an hour before class – do avoid bananas on the morning of exercise.

6. Is there parking?
Parking is available the first 90 minutes free with the cost of $2/hour there after. You will need to enter your number plate details before selecting the amount of time needed on the machine.

7. Which pregnancy exercise are safe?
Aqua aerobics is one of the best forms of exercise during pregnancy!

Not all exercises are safe, as your body changes so dramatically during pregnancy. Exercises should be specifically designed for pregnancy, to allow for loosening ligaments and changes in balance. Make sure that your Lead Maternity Carer approves any pregnancy exercises you are planning on doing, and only go to exercise classes specifically for pregnancy.

8. Why is aqua aerobics so good during pregnancy?
Not only do you get all the benefits of other pregnancy exercise classes, but you get to work out in water so you're weightless (which feels very comfortable when you're pregnant!) and the exercises are low-impact.

Aqua aerobics can also help you achieve a drug-free birth: a study published in the journal Reproductive Health states that water aerobics classes done by sedentary and low risk pregnant women has been shown to reduce the amount of pain-killing medication women request during labour.
